The Heiltsuk Integrated Resource Management Department (HIRMD) is dedicated to protecting and managing Heiltsuk Territory through responsible stewardship, informed decision-making, and the integration of traditional knowledge with modern science.

Our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Department plays a vital role in this work, providing advanced spatial analysis and mapping expertise that supports sustainable forestry management, environmental protection, and land-use planning. The team uses GIS technology to identify and safeguard culturally significant and environmentally sensitive areas, ensuring that all resource management decisions respect Heiltsuk values, heritage, and ecological integrity.
Through the combination of cutting-edge GIS tools and deep local knowledge, HIRMD continues to uphold the Heiltsuk Nation’s commitment to preserving the health of its lands, waters, and cultural sites for future generations.
