Hemas Council

The Hemas Council is the governing body for title and rights of the Heiltsuk people.  It is tasked with upholding social, political and cultural integrity of the Heiltsuk Nation.  The Hemas Council is made up of hereditary chiefs of various rankings, coming from the five (5) tribes of the Heiltsuk.  The Hemas Council is expected to provide leadership in all areas of title and rights; preservation of cultural heritage, providing long-term vision for the nation, and ensuring that cultural integrity is upheld in all Heiltsuk activity.
