The Haíɫzaqv (Heiltsuk) Nation created the Haíɫzaqv (Heiltsuk) Integrated Resource Management Department (HIRMD) to maintain stewardship over Haíɫzaqv land and waters. Therefore, the HIRMD Research Staff manages research and film projects proposed to transpire in Haíɫzaqv Territory. Also, the HIRMD establishes Protocol Agreements between the Heiltsuk Tribal Council (HTC) and external businesses.
The HIRMD currently holds Agreements with the following: Bluewater Adventures, Coastal Adventures, Nature United, Nature Conservancy of Canada, Ocean Adventures, QQS, SALTS, TULA Foundation, Vancouver Community College, and Wild Salmon Center combined with Coastal Rivers Conservancy. The HIRMD is responsible for tracking research related to the Haíɫzaqv People and their Territory. Researchers and filmmakers are required to follow an application process before any work begins with Haíɫzaqv People or in the Haíɫzaqv Nation. The Research Application can be downloaded from the link below.
